This charming bungalow built in 1940 had great bones to start. However, after an ongoing roof leak and years of neglect, it still needed a complete overhaul. We wanted to be sensitive to the house's history and architectural style while also addressing the needs of today's modern lifestyles. In addition to removing an old chimney flue in the kitchen and changing the layout to make it more functional, we also moved a half bath and converted it into a full bathroom and removed a closet to expanded the size of the hall bathroom. One of the most dramatic changes occurred by opening up the wall from the kitchen to living room. Being sensitive to the style of the house we chose to keep the arched corners which helps to soften the lines and make it feel like it's always been there. Lastly, we stripped the million layers of paint on the trim to create a fresh surface for paint, however, after seeing how beautiful the trim was in it's natural state we decided to keep it for a unique twist on California bohemian coastal.
